The Deepest Breath is beautifully, lovingly and tenderly written.

The words in this book dance across the page like a musical score. The emotion that is portrayed is both refreshing and magical. The empathetic words entice the reader to reflect on their deepest emotions and unanswered questions.

These words capture how the book takes you by the hand and wraps you in insightful and meaningful ponderings…

‘She squeezes my hand

And the distance between us

The distance I was sure I felt

It’s gone

So quickly

I’m not sure if it was ever actually there

Or if it was just me

This book is recommended because it allows you to reflect upon the way you see relationships, what you perceive to be right or wrong, and how you act upon your feelings. The way the poetic verse is laid out on the page, allows you to take on the lyrical thoughts and feelings, in little bite-sized chunks.

The Deepest Breath could be used in the Year 6 classroom and also within secondary schools. It gives peace of mind to children that know they are different and need reassurance that this is ok and accepted in the world. It allows a sense of belonging and confirms that there are others out there, going through similar emotions.
