Whether you love teaching Dahl, think it’s time to move on, or feel uneasy about the depiction of his characters, there will be plenty to think about in this webinar with Dahl specialist, Dr Ann Alston. Perhaps it’s time to rethink our teaching?
Dr Ann Alston is Senior Lecturer in Children’s Literature at The University of the West of England, Bristol. She has published The Family in English Children’s Literature (Routledge, 2008) and has co-edited and contributed to Roald Dahl: A Casebook (PalgraveMacmillan, 2012). More recently, she has written again on Dahl, identity and language and, in something of a departure from her usual research, has published a journal article on the representation of FGM in Children’s Literature. She is passionate that literary criticism should be for everyone and has spent much time in schools talking about critical literacy with children and teachers both in regard to picturebooks and Roald Dahl’s children’s books.
