The Way Home for Wolf

The Way Home for Wolf is the latest brilliant book from the duo behind The Lion Inside and The Koala Who Could.

Rachel Bright and Jim Field bring us the story of Wilf, a feisty young wolf cub, who is sure he could lead the pack, if only they would let him. When he gets lost in a snowstorm, he learns that even independent wolf cubs can benefit from the kindness of strangers. Hidden in the Northern Lights are a collection of animals, which appear one by one to guide him back to his family and safety.

This is a lyrical, rhyming text and is rich in evocative vocabulary. Children will enjoy listening and learning these new words in context. The animals of the tundra are portrayed with real character both in the text and the illustrations, which means this book would be a wonderful introduction to a topic on polar animals. There is lots to learn and explore.

All in all, The Way Home for Wolf is a lovely read for a KS1 class. The overriding message of the book is that we all sometimes need a little help and that a ‘handful of friendships’ can make all the difference in the world.
